  1. Polymer derived silicon oxycarbonitride (SiCNO) ceramic or so called polymer derived ceramics (PDCs) has been developed over couple of decades as the preceramic precursor for fabricating mainly Si-based ceramic. The transformation process from polymer to ceramic enables the significant breakthroughs of technology in ceramic science. The preceramic polymeric precursor (silazane/siloxane) is able to be processed or shaped by using conventional polymer-forming techniques such as injection molding, resin transfer molding, polymer infiltration pyrolysis, and coating from solvent or extrusion. Once the shape formed, the objects made from the preceramic polymeric precursor can then be transformed into ceramic components by pyrolyzing at high temperatures to consolidate the elements contained in the polymer matrix to ceramics [23-26]. During pyrolysis in inert environments the strong bonding between silicon and carbon in the polymeric compound preventing carbon from volatilizing in small hydrocarbon molecules attributes the synthesis of silicon-based PDCs such as silicon carbonitrides and oxycarbides (SiCN and SiCO) that provide high resistance to corrosion.
